There’s still something so baffling about how we can browse online for products, select what we want and have it delivered to our doorstep - sometimes in only a few hours.
You may have given the environmental impact of this a thought every once in a while but soon after, you resumed old habits.
A couple of years ago we were told that Amazon emits nearly as much Carbon Dioxide (CO2) as a small country.
This isn’t hard to believe because the typical parcel uses up to seven types of packaging materials from plastic bags to bubble wrap.
That is why it’s important to Soul Eco that all of our processes leave as little of a mark on our planet as possible. Besides, it would be ironic to sell eco-friendly products and then destroy the environment when we shipped them to you.
You'll notice that when you receive your parcel, we use very minimal packaging and you'll never find plastic in your order.
Our sellotape is biodegradable, our business cards are made from recycled paper, we print our labels on eco-printers and use continuous ink on 100% recycled paper.
But, let us tell you a little more about what we’re all here for - how do we ship our orders without harming the planet?
We use Sendle!
Sendle is Australia’s first 100% carbon neutral shipping service.
The logistics of getting your online order sent to you generates a huge amount of CO2 and as a carbon neutral company, Sendle’s release of CO2 into the atmosphere is zero.
How do they do this?
Every ounce of CO2 emitted during the shipment process is calculated and then cancelled out by a process called ‘offsetting’. This means that Sendle supports projects that reduce emissions, like regenerating rainforests and replacing old equipment with more efficient technology to ‘offset’ their carbon footprint.
As well as being Australia’s first carbon neutral shipping service, Sendle is also the first courier in Australia to trial 100% biodegradable, compostable satchels.
If you’ve ordered from Soul Eco before, you will have noticed that our bags look and feel like plastic BUT they’re made from 100% compostable and biodegradable materials.
They’re actually made from corn starch (funky, we know!), PLA (which is made from corn) and PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate).
The bags can be tossed in your compost bin or popped into your worm farm as they decompose and nourish the soil.
And, that’s a little bit about our shipment process at Soul Eco!
Remember - there’s no point ordering eco-friendly products if the shipment process is harmful to the environment!
